Addicted to Wanting?

I need to stop searching blogs for fashion inspiration for our imminent trip to London. After finding http://stylescout.blogspot.com/ and her bleddy fashionable pictures from around Brick Lane (BRICK LANE LAURA!! This is it, we have to go) i am having a fashion panic. The wish list is growing by the day but i have no time to shop.

I keep getting increasing panic attacks where i think, well I'll just run into town right now and buy myself things. This is not going to happen. For one, i don't have any time (as usual) to shop. And two, i need to utilise the small time i do have to shop to buy a certain wifey a last added extra to the B-day prezzie in the hopes of it looking rather fabulous.

So the added extras to the wish list:

  • Leather Gloves (£19.99 in H&M which i so desperately want)

  • More trousers, possibly Harem or more tailored. But preferably CHEAP!

  • Furry hat after seeing the girl below

  • Gold chain bag

  • Boot heels

  • Wifeys birthday night out outfit which i still have no idea for

This girl is pretty much my sole inspiration for this whole new wish list (apart from the leather gloves, they are just a recent spot on a rushed shopping trip)

I'd like to think, even though i think she looks completely amazing, that i could add more of a feminine twist to the idea. Possibly with my trench coat and heels. I would also never pull off the vampy make up look but i hope that my own interpretation could look just as good.

*sigh* I want too much.

Le Donk

I can never decide if i am a fan of British cinema. Every so often we come good and deliver a film that's worthy of talking about. But it is always inevitable that if someone we spawn here in Britain does anything of note, they always hop, skip and jump over the pond to that-place-where-movies-come-from. Take Danny Boyle for instance. Now I'm not saying that Boyle denies his heritage in anyway. I regularly see him in Manchester (earl grey tea please) and he takes lovingly about his home country all the time. Recently, however, his spin on film has had that Hollywood gleam poured all over it.

Can we call this British film? British directors, actors and values with American money and aesthetic. I'm not too sure.

This is where Shane Meadows comes in. The director is most definitely British. Not in the i wish to be Queen way. Oh no, no. Shane Meadows is British in the "I'm quite happy to eat a pie and have a pint and speak with a midland slur thank you very much" kind of way. The way in which we all live our lives, (especially me, midlands accent and all). The thing that makes this man so great is his resolute defiance to head into mainstream. He is quite happy to team up with long time friend, and muse, Paddy Considine, and make a very good film for no money in about five days.

This is why i am looking forward to watching Le Donk and Scor-zay-zee. This is the Uttoxeter born directors latest bit of British pie, served with a side of humour. Ive only heard good things so far and i look forward to seeing it.

* As a note, i would like to mention that in no way am i bad mouthing Hollywood cinema, Danny Boyle or the Queens English. They all make very good films.

Joseph Gordon Levitt

Another day in the office, another excuse to search for anything and everything that i can think of. Today i am avoiding the fashion pages as the money is already draining from my account and i would quite like to buy some food very soon. So today's attention has been turned to film.

I think from my previous post it is quite clear to see that i am excited about (500) Days of Summer being released. This lead to a Internet man-hunt on one of my favourite indie-ish actors Joseph Gordon Levitt. His pretty little face has been entertaining us from as early as 1996 when he first hit our screens in 1996 with 3rd Rock From the Sun. Now i have never been a fan of the long hair on a boy (unless your name is Johnny Depp, in which case you could adopt a bright pink wig and call yourself Pixie Geldof for all i care, you shall always be beautiful) but young Tommy Solomon stole a nation of hearts. Proving they weren't just any Tom, Dick or Harry (despite being called Tom, Dick and Harry), 3rd Rock lasted an impressive five seasons.

Levitt then heard the calling of teen flick-dom and became solidified in the minds of many a teenage girl as Cameron Jones, the floppy haired, new kid about town who tries to woo "that-girl-who-played-Alex-Mack-once-upon-a-time" (and also alongside Levitt in 3rd Rock, playing Alissa) How we prayed that he's get his love in the end. How we debated who we fancied more: The late, yet undeniably beautiful forever more, Heath Ledger who was the bit of rough in the film, or the geeky yet loveable Joseph?

Well, as time has passed he's shed the gauky image, playing a male prostitute, in one of my fave films Mysterious Skin, and loner high-schooler-cum-detective in Brick. He is now this:

A man hunk. Who looks amazing doing that whole "I'm wearing a suit and smouldering" thing. He's also trying his hand at action this summer in GI Joe. Is there anything he can't pull off? Well i am just going to have to wait till (500) Days hits our screens on 2nd September.

But let's be honest, he's hot isn't he?

Yes.

Gossip Girl deux

Revision of my first Column, updated like.

HOT

‘Where the Wild Things Are’ looks set to be our Christmas movie fave. Check out the full theatrical trailer out now.

‘Sherlock Holmes’ also looks to be a special Christmas treat. Set all divorce/baby/drug scandals aside, this film looks to be 2009’s answer to Sweeney Todd without the musical interludes. Add in the beauty of current Hollywood beau Rachel McAdams and do believe we have a winner. Also, give Holmes a run for his money and try and spot the scenes shot in Manchester!

‘(500) Days of Summer’ will be the offbeat comedy of summer for all you indie-film loving kids out there. We don’t have to wait for long and this makes us happy.

NOT

‘Imagine That’ – Well by the look of things Eddie, we’d rather not. With only a £110,000 opening weekend we think ‘Straight to DVD’ is all Mr Murphy will be imagining in the future!

Vanessa Hudgens - film comes out and so does the nudity. It would seem that The High School Musical star can’t help but flaunt what she’s got. It’s a shame we just don’t want to see.

‘White Chicks 2’ – Oh Wayans Brothers. Can we really sit through another film that over-uses every racial and sexual stereotype there is? We’re hoping wondering if this is just a rumour to help promote Dance Flick, the latest Wayans production.

WE JUST CAN’T DECIDE

Is it the sexiest man alive in one of the most eagerly anticipated Tim Burton films Alice in Wonderland?

Or has Johnny Depp reverted back to creepy Willy Wonka territory when he takes to our screens as The Mad Hatter?Let us know…

In Other News

Here at Pulp towers we are trying to decide if the Spiderman films should really continue? We already have Spiderman 4 in the pipeline but there are rumours for a fifth and sixth. There is no guarantee that both Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire are likely to return as the protagonists. And Director Sam Raimi is yet to sign on the dotted line. Is this franchising gone mad? Or are they destined to be just as great as the first try?

Answers on a post card.

The End is Nigh

I am constantly making elaborate plans for trips with people and they never seem to materialise into anything. I thought this summer was going to be full of these ideas. At the start of the year a mega trip was being planned with the boyf and several mini trips with the girls were all on the agenda and never happened. Now the end of the summer is approaching and i don't want our plans to be scuppered by anything. So i am going to write a list of all the things that i want to see/do before the end of this year. We all know how quickly summer turns to New Year and i do not want it to be eventful. I am recording on my blog so that it will most definitely happen and if it does not i give you all permission to pinch the back of my arms until some form of bruising appears.

Anyways, the list of the things i wish to do before the year is out: (split into sub categories because you will never do anything if it not strictly organised properly, i.e Our shopping trip to the Trafford Center)

London

  • Camden Market to purchase something i would never normally be able to get.

  • Picnic in Hyde Park (if the weather permits)

  • National Portrait Gallery to see some splendid culture

  • Witness at least one celebrity ( we will have to hunt these down)

  • See the Queen ('s house, we obvs will never see the Queen) and say hello to our Ma'am

  • Eat somethings incredibly English, like Bangers and Mash or Pie.
  • Take the underground and get black crap up our noses.

  • See the crown jewels?? Never done that my friend.

  • Cross the River Thames by the Millennium Bridge

  • Take at least 100 photos, all proper touristy like.

Seaside

  • Any sea on the coast of England

  • Write our names in the sand

  • Take windy but wonderful photos

  • Eat Fish and Chips

New York

  • Just go and have the most fantabulous time in the entire world

Ok so my list is very complete and it doesn't have a great number of things to do (apart from London which i have obviously been thinking about a hell of a lot). But now they are in writing and on t'internet i have to go and do these things.

London's Calling

As part of my never ending pile of work (i.e researching trips for me and the girls) i have stumbled across some beautiful train prices.

Have a gander Laura:

LETS GO PLEASE?

Sex and the City Girls Go Wild.

One can never be without a frolic about town with your girlie friends. And this week did not disappoint. As i mentioned before, 42 Derby was taken over by the glam pack for a two day whirlwind of girlie pleasure.

First stop was drinks in the empty Northern Quarter.

This photo is the lead up to us ex-Filey girls to decide that we are the next generation of The Satorialist/Perez/Stephen Fry. Because, as we have said a thousand times before, people really do want to read/watch our lives unfold. We are funnier than TV and far messier than celebs so why the hell not. Classic quote of by the Glam Pack came from LB and her hope for a baron Slaggy Hudgens.

We live to spend and love to shop. We also have a penchant for a spot of bangers and mash. We do not like to wait for forty minutes for our potato to be squashed and bangers to be grilled but alas, we guzzled it down anyway. Look ho happy we is:

Then it off to Birdcage in our new ensembles to watch our new recruit LJ lick the insides of many a boy who crossed her path. Never before have i seen a girl work her feminine charms in such a helpful way. The only way we got to the bar that night. And for that we like her immensely.
My favourite part of the night has to be the Anal lesson 101 from LJ with the help of her beautiful assistant Branana. As you can see, they taught me well but i will definitely not be trying it out anytime soon.

I have also realised that by not only having images from a night out but also detailing all the events that happened, i will be able to remember the best years of my life so far that little bit easier. Sambuca and vodka never really help my short term memory.

Best lie of the night: "hi yeah my names Esmerelda. But you can call me Esme."

I love be able to spend time with all my lovelies and cannot wait for further frivolous fun.

Trafford Heaven

Well today i thought i was going to be well on my way to getting my wish list. I did happen to get a shoulder padded dress and some tapered trousers but the rest i am a long way off getting. There were NO embellished waistcoats. Not even really any waistcoats! Im thinking i may have to embellish my own. And also no gold sequin jackets. I tried a silver Topshop one on, but it was deffo not my colouring.

Today i am going out in my shouldered dress (with scallop shaped sequins on the shoulder) and opaque tights. Black black black. Love being Autumn/Winter already :)

Photos to follow shortly.

Drinks with my faves

After a not very drunk but lovely evening with the girls last night we have all taken it upon ourselves to be writers. How this will pan out we don't know but we definately put all our hands in the middle and cheered so i think we're on the path to money!

Twas a wonderful night. Sarah has come up from Leicester and Leah from Wales. Claire and her Budapest friends are here and we all went out for drinks (and by drinks i mean one bottle of wine) in the Northern Quarter. Even Jacob joined us. We then went for a standard Korma in Lal Qula which was deffo the best decision of the night. GARLIC!!

Unfortunate event: Everyone now knows about me and Jacob. It happened so long ago sometimes i forget what happened or that it happened at all. It did. God how strange to think that it would ever happen again now.

We're going to the Trafford Centre today so hopefully will get most of my wish list :)

First Gossip Collumn

HOT

Where the Wild Things Are looks set to be our Christmas movie fave. Check out the full theatrical trailer out now.

The beautiful and talented Anne Hathaway tops the list of actresses under-30s. Other stars to make the list include last years winner Keira Knightley andfellow brit Emily Blunt.

Scream 4 – Kevin Williamson is back directing Friends favourite Courtney Cox and hubby David Arquette in the next instalment of the classic, picking up 10 years after we left off.

NOT
Justin Timberlake stars in new baseball movie The Open Road. Even though we love the Trousersnake we think that maybe he should stick to the day job.

Sienna Miller revealing that her boobs caught fire on the set of new flick G.I Joe. Maybe Sienna thinks you need to be hot to sell films these days.

Vanessa Hudgens – A film comes out and so does the nudity. It would seem that The High School Musical star can’t help but flaunt what she’s got. It’s a shame we just don’t want to see.

WE JUST CAN’T DECIDE

Is it the sexiest man alive in one of the most eagerly anticipated Tim Burton films Alice in Wonderland?

Or has Johnny Depp reverted back to creepy Willy Wonka territory when he takes to our screens as The Mad Hatter?

Let us know…

In other news…

Legendary film maker John Hughes has sadly passed away. The 59 year old director and writer suffered a heart attack whilst on a walk.

He brought us film such as The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and The Home Alone series.

He was an iconic movie director and a huge influence to a generation.

Our thoughts go out to his family.

Gossip Girl

Good news for me.

I have managed to bag myself a gossip column in the MMU magazine Pulp!! I will be doing a whats hot and whats not column based around film, with an "other news" section and a brief article on what i have been up to based on the film world recently, I CANNOT WAIT!

I don't know how regular a feature this will be but the new editor of the mag seemed to like my writing style and said he wanted to include it. I even get my photo and cheesy tagline attatched!!

So i will be using this blog as a means to keep track on my thoughts from the film world, so i don't necessarily have to track Perezhilton.com all the time!

Yayy!

Fashionista

I wishwishwish that i could afford to buy all the new items of clothing that i want. Following the satorialist is certainly not helping. Not only are all the woman amazingly dressed but they are gorgeous and slim. The men are all models/stylish through to the bones. I am thoroughly envious.

My clothing wishlist for Autumn/Winter this year:

  • Heels - Big, chunky, platformy, boot heels. And loads of them.
  • Big shouldered dress - of the three quater length sleeve and grey variety
  • Tapered trousers - two pairs, one black one dark grey
  • Embellished waistcoat - bum length and black
  • Jacket - suitable for day and night
  • Big, wraparound scarf
  • Tops to suit all these things

So thats all my August wages down the drain then. Trafford centre on Wednesday could end up as a big mistake.

Fear of Nothing

The nerves just get to me.

I am sitting here right now, waiting for people to leave. Then maybe i can do it. Even then, i don't want anyone to hear me. Not even the people on the other end of the phone.

I have a fear of talking on the phone in an office. Not of talking. Not of being on the phone. And definately not of being in an office. I just can't seem to combine them all together.

At the start of the day, i was asked by Anna to give some girls a call about a story we could write concerning their business thats really taking off. The article is great and really interesting. The pair are both graduates from the MMU Fashion Buying degree and instead of doing a dissertation, they managed to get the selling rights for the North West selling the products of Punky Allsorts under their brand name DazzleDust.

Now you see, i cannot understand why i am so nervous. I know what i have to say, what i have to ask them, and i fully understand the nature of the article so i won't be stumped if they said anything. But i can't seem to manage to pick up the office phone and ring them.

Im going to have to go out on my break and do it from the mobile, again.

On a brighter note, on the way to the bus stop today, Simon informed me that all his friends from work really liked me. Apparently i was chatty and got on with everyone really well. Why can i not combine my chatty face-to-face persona with the telephone?

I will never know!

Higher education?

Just starting my day at the press office and came across this article:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/education/education-news/1-in-5-students-unhappy-with-university-course-1768500.html

And i have to say that i am in complete agreement. I do not know one person that is happy with the standards of their course at the minute. The fact that a high percentage of people are unhappy would make you think that they would do something about it.

Maybe not ay?! I think my only way forward is work experience. Oh the joys of having no time to myself!

Getting started

I have decided to start a blog for the same reason everybody else does. I want a place where all my thoughts and daily actions will be stored together. I want it to be my memory but also a tool. Somewhere my questions can be answered or, in some cases, just asked. I also want to see that I am making the right decisions in my life.

I want to be a lot of things that seem impossible to my 21 year old mind. Hence the title of this blog. I am constantly trying to balance all the things I want/have to do in my daily life. At this current moment in time I am balancing my two jobs, my boyfriend and my best friends and all the other ‘friends’ who seem to want a lot of my time. If I am honest, a lot of the time I just want to be on my own. On my own I can do what I want and act how I like. With all my other responsibilities I do not have enough time to do these things. My main example of this is the gym which has been sorely neglected since I started back at the press office.

Now I do not want it to seem like I am moaning. I love what I am doing or I would not be doing it all at once. I feel this ambitious urge inside of me all the time. The kind of ambition that won’t let me stop to think “I haven’t got the time for this” or “how on earth am I going to fit all of this in”.

Is this all too deep? It won’t be. I just want to practice being all wordy just because Stephen Fry loves it.

Time to crack on with the press release and then homey time to see the wife (aka Madame Smith). First night off in while so I am going to enjoy it.

I'll write late of all the happenings from the past week.

xx
